Obituary of Janusz Barcewicz

Please share a memory of Janusz to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janusz Barcewicz was born on October 22, 1952, in Olsztyn, Poland, to Pelagia and Mieczysław Barcewicz. Olsztyn, the capital of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, known as the “Land of a Thousand Lakes,” shaped his love for the water and the great outdoors. Growing up, he was an avid kayaker, and when life brought him to New York, his favorite pastimes included walks in Jones Beach State Park, Minnewaska Lake and 7 Lakes Drive. His other favorite outdoor memories include trips to Maine and Aruba. Janusz was an intellectual man and placed high value on education and craft. He was always striving to learn more. Janusz graduated from the Gdańsk University of Technology Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics in 1977. Shortly after immigrating to the United States, he completed a second master's degree at the New York Institute of Technology in 1987. He had an unstoppable curiosity about the world around him, and was always figuring out how things work; reading handbooks, manuals, and magazines and constantly taking on DIY projects. The vast amount of knowledge he had possessed on computer science, electrical and mechanical engineering was in a class of its own. Janusz also had an immense passion for cars and their mechanics, especially BMWs. He would love to take apart BMW car engines and put them back together. He adored driving, no matter the distance. One of his memorable drives was on a family vacation in Europe: breakfast in St. Moritz, Switzerland, lunch in Lugano, Switzerland, and dinner in Venice, Italy. Aside from his genius, he had a gentle heart and genuine sense of humor. For the last 29 years, he was a devoted landlord to 47 tenants. He treated everyone with respect and always acted with dignity and professionalism. "If you're going to do something, do it right" was his motto; and that reflects in the accomplishments that he leaves behind. His legacy of hard work, dedication to quality, and determination will never be forgotten. Janusz died peacefully on April 4th, 2023 at the age of 70, in his New York apartment, his home for the last 40 years, surrounded by his family. Janusz is laid to rest at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife Teresa in New York and daughter Annette and son-in-law Jay in Switzerland, as well as his sister Halina and nephew Jacek in Poland. He was loved greatly and will be missed forever.
