Obituary of Kevin P. Kennelly

On Sunday, December 19, 2021, Kevin Patrick Kennelly died at Elmhurst General Hospital, Queens, New York of injuries sustained from a vehicle accident. He had just reached his 72nd birthday on the 26th of November. Kevin is survived by his daughter Kelly Kennelly of Dumfries, VA; grandchildren Colin Young & Brianna Young; son Kevin Kennelly of Glendale, NY; his younger brother Richard Kennelly of Marietta, GA; along with cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Joanne Kennelly, his mother Irene Fernholz, his father Patrick Kennelly, and stepfather Charles Fleck. Kevin was born on November 26, 1949, in Bayshore, NY. He graduated from Forest Hills High School and went on to attend a technical school. In 1969 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country honorable for a total of six years. Kevin married Joanne Vettel on July 7th, 1973. They met in high school and fell in love. That love lasted until September 28, 2001, when Joanne passed away from cancer. They welcomed their daughter Kelly in 1975 and Kevin in 1982. Kevin enjoyed sports in his younger years. During his high school years, he enjoyed gymnastics; he excelled at the high bar until an injury ended his career. He valued his work as an industrial plumber throughout New York. He was a very active member of the local American Legion (Post 1424). His pass time was joining up with his buddies and going for a few beers. His Irish temper would occasionally get him in trouble. Kevin was a devout son, a faithful husband, a loyal brother and friend, and a true patriot. He was well liked by everyone he met. He will be MISSED!!
