Obituary of John Francis Fay II

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John Francis Fay II, 79, of Kew Gardens New York, passed away on Sunday April 28, 2019 surrendered peacefully after a heroic battle with cancer. From the day he was diagnosed, we never heard him complain. Not once. Not about anything, his calming dignity and incredible determination to win this battle, regardless of the outcome of his fight with cancer.  A true “New Yorker”, John was born and raised New York, spending his childhood summers in Greenwood Lake, New York.  John took a few years away from NYC to live in Virginia Beach to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming an Entrepreneur.   John went to Brooklyn Technology in Brooklyn NY for high school. Hereceived his bachelor’s and Master’s in Education from Queens College, City University of New York.  John had a diverse career path, he worked in the New York shipyard, then he started his own business JJM, LLC in Virginia. After leaving Virginia he returned to New York to work as an VP Engineer for World Yacht, New York. He also worked as a port engineer for the Department of the Navy.  After his retirement from the World Yacht he went back to school to receive his Master’s.  John taught Science at Freeport High School, Long Island New York.  He enjoyed sharing stories about his students and education.  After retiring as a High school teacher, he was chosen as a volunteer through the New York Public Library where he taughtthe English language to adults from other countries.  He was well known in the local area and recognized for his wisdom and friendship.  He always put a smile on your face and was a good listener. John had many hobbies! Spending time with his parents, Friday night meals with his Mother and Father, eventually just his Mom. John was close to all his siblings and the stories went on and on and the love he had for all of them. John was close to his first cousins and spent many fun times with them though out his life.  John was a loving father, taught us to push ourselves and become a successful and a nice person in life.  As a Grandfather known as “Pop” he cherished the time he got with each one of them. Whether it was walking on the beach, building sand castles, playing a joke, doing science and math homework, solving riddles and listening to their music. Lots of laughs and smiles. One of his favorite hobby was boating, being near the water, working on his sail boat and taking the boat out on the long Island Sound and Ocean. John had many close friends in NYC, dear friend Bonnie, his friends at the Cardiac rehab, Jerry, Lydia, Marty and many more. John will be well missed!!!  John is survived by his four children, Kara Twomey and husband Mike of Greenville SC, Mary Orlandino of Greenville SC, John Fay and wife Elizabeth of Bernardsville NJ and James Fay and fiancée Joanne of Vernon NJ; his sisters Mary Gannon and husband John of Buffalo NY and Jane Fay of San Francisco CA; nine grandchildren:Jonathan, Laura, John, Kayla, Jack, Patrick, Julia, Joseph and Erin; and one great-grandchild Aria.
