Obituary of Gheorghe Arghirescu

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved Gheorghe Arghirescu, who passed on December 16, 2025. He is survived by his cherished wife of 57 years Aurora, son Florin and daughter-in-law Mona, grandchildren Ella, Evan and Evelyn, and sister Aurelia. Gheorghe was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1945. Having lost his father at an early age in 1957, his life’s goal became to surround himself with the love of family and friends. As a young man, Gheorghe was an accomplished athlete. An outstanding soccer goalie for the professional team Rapid Bucharest, he was called to the Junior National Team. In 1964, with the encouragement of his mother, he gave up his soccer career to attend college. While pursuing a degree mechanical engineering, he met the love of his life, Aurora, in 1966 and they married in 1968. In 1990, Aurora and George immigrated to New York with the simple goal in mind to provide their son with a chance for a better future. Gheorghe, or Uncle George as he was known to many, filled the room with his laughter, jokes and a beaming smile, and you could never say no when he offered a little food and a little drink. Gheorghe’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and family. To have known him was to love him, and he is dearly missed. Family and friends are invited to a viewing service on Sunday, December 21st from 4-6pm at Glascott Funeral Home, 102-03 Metropolitan Ave, Forest Hills NY 11375. No meters are in effect on Sundays, so no need to worry about paying for parking. A private ceremony will be held on Monday December 22nd starting at 9am at Glascott Funeral Home, followed by the burial at Cypress Hills Cemetery, 833 Jamaica Ave, Brooklyn NY 11208.
